In their installation BYCATCH, Abie Franklin and Daniel Hölzl explore the permeable and often paradoxical boundaries between human infrastructure and natural phenomena. The starting point for the discussion is the tetrapod located in the Kunsthalle’s outdoor space. Its form is borrowed from the breakwaters used in coastal protection. Does this define the Kunsthalle as an island worth protecting? The artists offer insights into material cycles, ecological issues, and the collaborative creation of ephemeral, hybrid landscape of BYCATCH.
